On June 12th of 2016, the city of Orlando came to a heartbreaking stop when the deadliest shooting in U.S history occurred. 49 people were killed and 53 were injured when a shooter opened fire in the Orlando nightclub which was popular among the city LGBT community. The entire world joined in mourning and showed their support to the city of Orlando with tributes to victims of the massacre. A year later people are still mourning the loss of those 49 lives and those who survived are still haunted by the memories. I remember hearing of the shooting and my heart sank. I could not believe such hate could really exist in someone for them to do such a thing. I was very saddened by the whole thing, so much so that i was moved to tears while watching a news coverage of the massacre.
Today i remember the victims of the Pulse Nightclub shooting and their families. I hope the lives that were lost are resting peacefully and their families are staying strong and those who were injured are living their lives with love and happiness. When you think about the whole thing it's like kinda like a war. This was an attack on not just the LGBT community but also an attack on humanity. For decades People have been fighting to be respected, safe and loved. Equality must exist for all regardless of religion, race and sexuality. We must still love and respect those who are not always like us and remember that they too are children of God. It is important that we express and embrace love because the future of humanity depends on it and this can only happen if we allow love to win.
Message to the survivors:
Tragedy, sadness and fear have the ability to dim our lights and wipe away our true colors but when you decide you are much more than just a survivor and fight your way out of that sad dark place you'll start to see the light and all your true colors will illuminate.
Have a great week guys! Thanks for Roc'ing with me!
