Downtown in Denim

Hi Rocstars! i am excited to share with you guys this collaboration between 'HeavyMannaz' and myself. I feel very honored to be the first person to #roc pieces from the new unreleased collection. The photographer of these photos is also the designer! (Yes! she is super talented) We ventured downtown because we thought it would be the perfect place to shoot these bags, especially because the culture of downtown and its Dons offered a lot of inspiration in designing this collection.

HeavyMannaz is an authentic Jamaican brand of hand made canvas bags that has a raw edgy identity, from the print to assembly. HeavyMannaz, a term coined from the 1970s 'Under Heavy Manners' which meant state of emergency or to some rastas a time to discipline one self to become a stronger person. Our culture has been shaped from the many occurrences in the 1970s to 1980s, the bags are time capsules of those times, not just functional but a visual aid into a time many Jamaicans have spoken about under our breath.

Design inspiration aside, its strikes the perfect balance of style and function. The classic straps are as timeless as they are strong, and they also have different prints and patterns on them. This rude boy is designed to store what matters most to you. For me, that's my entire house, lol! It's perfect for days when i have to run from classes to a shoot, so my books/papers don't have to wrestle my clamps, lint roller and mini fabric steamer for space, and leaves enough space for my charger and that extra t-shirt that i never leave home without. Learnt enough about the bag as yet? yes? ok, now on to my outfit.

What's more bad ass and classic than denim? especially denim on denim?.... nothing! I love the look of a head- to-toe denim ensemble. It can range anywhere from classic and all-American to edgy and eclectic. Personally, i love pairing my denim jeans with a button up chambray shirt, like this one from DKNY. I tried to "rude bwai" it up a bit because of the vibe we were going for so i threw on a grey baseball cap and navy blue chucks and finished it off by layering jewellery.
