Time and time again we are told and taught the importance of following your dreams. I do not know the dreams you dream of and i don't care how big or overly ambitious they are, just work on them! The dream that your holding in your mind and afraid to chase, it is possible! It's very hard changing your life and in the process of doing it you are going to meet alot of failures and disappointments. There are going to be moments that you doubt yourself but don't let a nightmare stop you from dreaming. Rough times are going to come but they are NOT here to stay. A dream come true is not a special golden ticket that only the "special" among us will get. It is something that truly exists for all us. I NEVER wanted to be anything as bad as i wanted to be a Fashion Stylist and a Writer. My whole life i have been dreaming and wishing to live in that moment of being what i always wanted to be. I believed in it and in me and that is what kept my dream alive and it kept me sane. It was my salvation! I never stopped believing and i use to tell people that hey i am going to be a stylist and dress famous people and be famous too (lol! My dreams were very unapologetic and overly ambitious, but hey i am Jamaican what did you expect!) Most people where i come from don't have much success stories. I grew up in the biggest fishing village in Jamaica and it was very rare that i hear someone expressing a deep desire for a dream that was not common or something outside of fishing. So they grow up and raise children, pay bills and they die. They never worked on themselves or chased a dream. Never pushed themsleves or strected and try to be bigger than the norm. They complain instead of doing something about their situation. I never wanted to be like that and i was'nt going to make all this passion and glitter inside me go to waste *flips imaginary hair* I wanted so much more out of life and i was depending on my dreams to give me that.
It is necessary that you get the losers out of your life if you want to live your dreams. For people who are chasing their dreams i can tell you first hand that life will have a whole different meaning. When you start to become the person of your dreams you start seperating yourself from other people and you begin to start to have a certain uniqueness. I knew that not everybody will share my vision and support me in my journey and trust me when i say i got mocked and teased my whole high school life about my dreams. I always told myself that i am an uncommon breed and i am fabulous and basic people wont understand and that is how i didnt make myself a victim of mediocrity. As soon as i started saying that and believinging in it i started to attract people who support me and gave me opportunities that could help me reach my dreams. My first "official" step into my dreams came from a college classmate who is a makeup artist who recommended me to a stylist who had some major international styling cred and from there my internship started as a stylist's assistant and as they would say "the rest is history". She reached out to me because i was'nt afraid to share my passion and dreams and she was aware of that. She realised my passion and she supported me. Use your passion to help you reach your drerams. Share it, get involved and don't be afraid to express it so people can see your hunger and help by feeding you with opportunities. We will always face rejections and No's, you might have a meeting and no one shows up or somebody say "you can count on me" and they never come through but dont give up. It's never over until you win! Die with memories not with dreams.
